redefining what it means to belong to a yoga studio.
New York City’s only dual-temperature yoga experience.
Have you ever stopped to wonder why yoga studios only offer hot or non-heated classes?
At the Block, you don’t have to choose.
We offer a holistic approach to yoga with a range of classes across two temperature-controlled practice rooms.
One is hot
The other is not
our four methods of practice
-
Hatha Yoga is an overarching term that refers to any yoga practice that uses physical postures (asana) and breathing exercises (pranayama). It is the foundational system from which many contemporary yoga styles (like Vinyasa) have evolved. At the Block, we offer the OG Hot Yoga—also known as 26&2—as a distinct branch of Hatha yoga. This style embodies discipline and is a set series of long-held postures performed in the same order, in a room heated to 105 degrees.
-
Vinyasa yoga is a dynamic, fluid style of yoga characterized by linking movement directly with the breath. The pace is generally faster than Hatha yoga, making it a powerful practice that builds heat, strength, and cardiovascular endurance. At the Block, no two Vinyasa classes are exactly alike, allowing for exploration of different themes, creativity, and peak poses.
-
Pilates and Strength Training are both forms of exercise that improve muscular fitness, but they approach the goal from different angles. Pilates is a low-impact, mind-body exercise system characterized by precise, controlled movements that target the ‘powerhouse’. Strength Training focuses on maximizing muscle mass, increasing power, and improving bone density. At the Block, we offer both styles of fitness to complement the yoga practice.
-
Restorative yoga is a gentle, slow-paced style of yoga that focuses on deep relaxation, stress reduction, and rejuvenation. At the Block, our main restorative class offering is Yin Yoga, a deep-stretching practice that involves holding passive, floor-based postures for five minutes. The primary intention is to gently stress and strengthen the deep connective tissues to improve range of motion and to calm the central nervous system.
At the Block, we believe in the benefits of a balanced practice. Just as our studio offers both heated and non-heated rooms, our schedule and class offerings reflect a harmony of these four methods.
